Project Summary
Navigating No is a practice tool especially created to address issues that arise when power distance and indirect communication impact interpersonal working relationships. This practice module uses business scenarios to assess the learner's ability to respond assertively in real-life work relationships.
Audience
Software engineers, technologists and individual contributors based in countries with a culture of high power distance and indirect communication.
Responsibilities
Instructional Design, eLearning Development
Tools Used
Articulate Storyline, Power Point, Micorsoft CoPilot, Paint 3D, Pixabay, Amazon Web Services
Problem
A global L&D colleague expressed the desire for follow-up resources for her in person training participants to reivew and practice the skills learned in her assertive communication trainings. The challenge was to create resources that were engaging, offered practical review/practice, and could be hosted outside of an LMS. And while the skills to be practiced were interpersonal in nature, my colleague also expressly shared her distaste for resources that use animated characters in the design/storytelling.
Solution
To offer her a possible solution, I created an e-learning pilot module for her pro bono using Articulate Storyline and hosted it on Amazon's Web Services. I researched and designed the e-learning content and media to build a scenario-based practice and quiz module that aligns with adult learning theory, using a combination of backward design and SAM.
